Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

Pre-prosthetic surgery is the preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis.

Some patients will require minor oral surgical procedures to be performed before receiving a partial or complete denture. For maximum comfort, a denture sits on the bone ridge, and the bone needs to be of proper shape and size. If an extraction of a tooth is necessary, the underlying bone may be left rough and bony. To ensure a proper fit of a denture, bone will probably need to be resurfaced or sculpted. Sometimes, excess bone would have to be resorbed before receiving a denture.
