There are several ways we prepare you for your procedure. We will discuss each option during your initial consultation so you are aware of your options and condition following surgery.

General Anesthesia

IV medications are given to produce a semiconscious or unconscious state. You will only be aware of the injection in your arm to administer the IV. The numbing injections and surgery are accomplished after you are asleep. We recommend our wisdom tooth and multiple tooth extraction patients select this type of sedation. However, nearly anyone can select this type of sedation for any procedure we perform if they have anxiety.

Prior to your surgery, if you select this type of sedation, you will be required to fast 8 hours before your procedure. Following the surgery, you should plan to rest at home for the remainder of the day, and you will require a ride home from the office

Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is often recommended for less invasive procedures, such as a one-tooth dental implant. First, you are given a topical numbing gel that is rubbed on the surgical site and then the numbing (local anesthesia) injection is given to the surgical area. The loss of feeling will typically last anywhere from 1 to 8 hours, depending on the type of local anesthesia used.
